Town of Sandanski – World of HealthLet we start our Bulgarian journey with the town of Sandanski and Sandanski region; there are many unique places to visit around. I can say that I had the privilege to be born in this region. I will explain why. Settled in the foothills of the magnificent Pirin Mountain, on the bank of Sandanska Bistritza River this place is blessed from God. Fertile land, Mediterranean climate and healing mineral springs contributed to appearance of inhabitants since 3,200 years ago. Geographical location of Sandanski between Thracian, Greeks, and Macedonian lands creates a contact zone, included since early age in the Mediterranean civilization. 
In our days the town of Sandanski is a modern climatic and balneological resort with lots of family hotels, guest houses, and restaurants. Tens of thousands tourists from all over the word and Bulgaria visit Sandanski every year. The town is the preferred choice for many visitors from Sofia, traveling 160 km every weekend to enjoy two quiet and relaxing days after the stressful week.

Panorama of Old Sandanski Sometimes, when I go back to Sandanski after long absents, I have the feeling that the time is stopped there. It is so quiet and relaxing, even the air smells differently.
